Company History

Northside Music was founded in 1949 by Paul Smith. Smith sold pianos, organs, and accordions as well as teaching lessons for those instruments. Current owners John and Dick Mills bought the business in 1959 from Kenny and worked to build it into the business that it is today. Northside Music not only still sells pianos, organs, and keyboards, but boasts a full staff of experts that can: move, tune, service, and completely rebuild an instrument. Northside's rebuilding and restoration shop remains at the center of its operation and restores numerous pianos and organs back to their original state each year. Northside has been a family business for its entire existence and that tradition continues to this day; with children and grandchildren of the Mills family working for the business Northside stands ready to bring music into peoples' homes for generations to come.

Building History

Our main showroom is located at 1008 South St. in Lafayette, Indiana. The building was built in 1842 and is home to one of our showrooms, our rebuilding shop, and office. Northside moved to this location in 1962 from its original location (more on the North side of town). The rebuilding shop was once used as a manufacturing facility for hammers. The main building was owned for many years by the Horrat family, before being sold to Northside.
